We're both running for reelection
We're very grateful to you the voters of Allenstown (Carol only), Epsom and Pittsfield for electing us as your State Representatives in 2010 and 2012. We happy with our accomplishments for you, particularly producing balanced budgets, with no tax increases and a few tax cuts (in 2011). The 2010 budget required almost a 10% reduction in spending from the prior budget, something unprecedented in the state's history.
The goal of the Republican House, should you return us with a majority, will be to cut spending enough to provide some business tax relief. Since our business taxes are among the highest in the country, with an 8.5% tax on profits (Massachusetts is 8%), cutting them would lay a foundation for sustained economic improvement in New Hampshire.
Both of us have held positions of responsibility. Carol was the chair and later the minority leader of the Executive Departments and Administration committee, which deals with the structure of government and particular issues like business licensing. She is also a member of the Joint Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules (JLCAR). This joint House-Senate committee oversees the rules created by the executive branch to implement laws. Dan was a member of the Finance committee and worked on the budget. He also is on the Joint Fiscal Committee, which deals with money issues that come up between budgets.
As your representatives, we had some success with bills filed as a result of constituent requests. Carol finally got through a bill to allow the tax impact of warrant articles to be listed on ballots. Dan got a bill passed that puts information about awarded contracts online as well as a bill clarifying the law against shoplifting.
We would like to continue to represent you. Feel free to call or email us with your ideas and concerns.
